Band Camp

The Valley was Alive with the Sound of Music

Wagon ride114 enthusiastic young musicians headed off to Vision Valley for 2 days of fun and music on the 2nd and 3rd of June. Loading the buses with enough luggage to see each child well equipped for several weeks, along with music stands and instruments, took longer than the trip to Vision Valley itself ! We finally arrived however, and before long the children were happily organising who would get the top bunks and doing a quick stock take of which cabin had the best collection of sugary treats.

Tutorial groups and Band rehearsals quickly got underway with Band Conductors Mark Strykowski and John D’arcy in full swing.

Children quickly adapted to the meal time routines, helping out in the kitchen, setting tables and completing cleaning up duties.

Despite a busy musical program there was still time to enjoy Treasure Hunts, bush walks, canoeing, Whacky Olympics and a variety of outdoor games.

The 2 day camp culminated in a wonderful concert performed by each of our three bands. The children were delighted to play for an enthusiastic audience of parents, siblings and principal, Mr Fraser. Despite being somewhat tired, it was clear that all involved had enjoyed their musical time at Vision Valley and the opportunity to perform the pieces they had worked hard to perfect was appreciated by all.

Thankyous must be extended to the teachers who gave up their time to attend the camp, to the parents who so willingly assisted in transporting equipment back to school but particularly to the parents of the band committee who spent many hours in the organization and planning of the camp.

It was a great success, reflected by the 2 Silver and the Bronze awards won at the recent Yamaha Festival.
