xmas candlePRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Presentation Day:    Thank you to everyone who was able to attend and help celebrate our students’ achievements and to see the spectacular items where students showcased their talents.  Our student leadership team consists of the two School Captains and six Prefects as well as our House Captains.  All were announced on the day.

I congratulate all these students on their election to our leadership team for 2008.

Classes for 2008:     At this stage we have 22 classes for 2008 (similar to 2007) but we are continuing to grow and we are very close to the numbers for a 23rd class.  For this reason classes will not be confirmed until we return next year and students will return to their 2007 classes when school resumes in January 2008.

As soon as numbers are clear classes will be formed (22 or 23 classes) and students will be placed into them as soon as possible.  I am hopeful that this will occur quickly and with minimal disruption.

Staffing:     As you are aware Ms Buonocore has been transferred to Haberfield Public School and I would like to thank her for all her hard work at Samuel Gilbert Public School and wish her the very best for the future.

Two new teachers have been appointed.  Ms Lomov is coming from Cabramatta West Public School and Ms Katrina Richmond is joining us from Miller Public School.  I welcome both teachers and know that they are very pleased to have been appointed to Samuel Gilbert Public School.

Textbooks:      Next year we will again be holding a textbook day where parents can purchase textbook packs.  I have negotiated a price with the bookseller which is cheaper than the books could be purchased for in any retail outlet.  The aim is to try and make it as easy as possible for parents to purchase textbooks and for every student to have their books and to be ready to work.  The textbook day is Thursday, 7th February, 2008 (Week 2) and I will provide more details to parents when we return to school next year.

Uniform Shop Opening Times:        The Uniform Shop will be open from 8.30am to 10.00am on Tuesday, 29th January, 2008 and Wednesday, 30th January, 2008.  The shop will then be open as normal on Tuesdays from 8.30am to 9.30am from Week 2.

Shop For Your School Program:     Thank you very much to all those parents who have shopped at Nash Patel’s Good Guys during the year and have sent in their ‘school dollars’.  They have been put to good use buying electrical equipment for our school.  Many, many thanks to parents who have sent in the dollars during the year.  All students will benefit from your efforts.

Important Dates for 2008:

  • Staff return on Tuesday, 29th January, 2008
  • Years 1 to 6 students return on Wednesday, 30th January, 2008
  • Kindergarten students start on Thursday, 31st January, 2008.

Equipment Lists for 2008:      Equipment lists for each grade were sent home yesterday.  They are also on the school website.  The equipment listed may be purchased from the Glenhaven Newsagency, Knightsbridge Shopping Centre during the school holidays.

Year 6     Year 5     Year 4     Year 3     Year 2          (all pdf )

If you are interested in pre-ordering you can email the Newsagency on glen.news2@bigpond.com.au

Finally may I take this opportunity to thank all our parents, staff and students for their support this year.  I wish everyone a very safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year vacation.  I look forward to seeing you in 2008.
