PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

School Cross Country
All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in our Cross Country Carnivals which were held in Week 2 for our Kindergarten and Year 1 students and last week for our Year2 to 6 students. The weather was kind on both days and all our students participated enthusiastically. The ribbons were presented to the winners and placegetters of each age group today and selected students will go through to represent the district at the Zone Carnival at Castle Hill Showground next Wednesday. Good luck to all those selected! It was really great to see so many parents attend and our particular thanks go to all those parents who helped us on the individual days. Sport is a vital part of our school program as we encourage all our students to keep fit and to participate in, and enjoy, regular sporting activities.

GrandParents’ Day and Education Week Activities
It was wonderful to see the number of grandparents who were able to attend our special Grandparents’ Day last Friday and to see the joy on the faces of both the grandparents and their grandchildren. It was obvious that the day brought back thoughts about their own days at primary school and in fact, many came over to share them with different members of staff. Their experiences were indeed very different to those being experienced by students today but one thing is still the same - the absolute importance of an excellent education. Many made a particular point of commenting on the wonderful opportunities this school offers to our students.

Our Open Day on Wednesday was also a great success and an opportunity for students to showcase their skills for their parents. Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend and to take the time to visit classrooms and to watch the performances. The children love to see you at school.

A huge thanks also, to all those parents and grandparents who bought books at our Book Fair in the Library. Profits raised will provide additional resources for all our students.

Attendance
It is very important that students arrive at school on time in the mornings and attend the assembly so that they hear all the messages for the day. The bell rings at 8.50am each morning and I would ask parents to ensure that students are at school in plenty of time to move straight down to the assembly area. If students do arrive late they should go immediately to the assembly and are not to wait around their classrooms. Students arriving after assembly has finished must go to the front office for a late note. Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Invoices
A reminder that invoices were sent out this week and I ask that you pay these promptly. The school outlays money in advance so that students can participate in activities and must recoup these funds promptly. Thank you for your assistance in this matter as it assures the viability of the scheme which benefits both our families and the school.

FROM THE CANTEEN

Grandparents’ Day morning tea was a great success. We received a lot of appreciative comments and thanks for the selection of food.

A big thank you to everyone who either helped on the day and/or donated a cake or slice. We could not have done it without you.

The new Winter Menu has now been issued and the price rises are effective now. Please note that party pies have been replaced by a larger junior pie at $1.50 each.

Sushi and soup can be preordered on Monday for Wednesday’s lunch.

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

Book Fair
What a successful Book Fair we have had over the past week. The school should benefit from sales to the tune of around $2,000. Thank you all for your purchases.

You were also very generous with donations to the library and I would like to thank the students, who with their parents and grandparents, donated to the school library.

A big thank you to the following mothers who gave up their time to come and assist.

Cheryl, Janelle, Dong, Kim, Moira, Nicole, Kerry, Julie, Barbara, Karen, Joanne, Sharon and Susan. My special thanks to Cheryl who is a Book Fair expert after all the time she has spent helping.

Last but not least thanks to Little Miss Spider for her guest appearances throughout the week!
