ADDITION INFORMATION

FROM THE P&C
Well, we are nearing the end of the year which means next year’s “wish list” has been completed.  We are VERY happy to say that we have been able to expend most of the funds we had raised on improvements, innovative and educational resources for our kids.

$45,000 will again be allocated to fund our support teacher, Mrs Eldridge, for student enrichment and extension.

$20,000 will go towards our library fund, library resources and library staff, Mrs Sue Bell.

$18,000 is allocated for a new computer server and replacement of switches so we can offer our students a more reliable and updated computer system.

$26,000 will be used to purchase 4 interactive whiteboards for the classrooms.

$6,500 will be spent on the purchase of 4 portable shelters (in house colours) to give the kids shade on sports days, carnivals, outdoor events, etc.

$5,500 will go towards resources for a Science program.

$2,000 has already been spent on new line marking for handball, Newcome Ball, a speed hump and speed limit markings for the car park.

Thank you to everyone who returned ideas for the expenditure of our fete money.  This $16,000 will be spent on new play equipment for the kids.  Mr Fraser and the teachers will get back to the P&C with their ideas on which type of equipment they feel would be best suited to appeal to ALL the kids and hopefully we will see the new equipment installed ready for next year.

More fantastic news is that the funding from the Investing in our School Program is in the bank which means our new computers have been ordered and the COLA will be installed over the Christmas break and up and ready when we come back in 2008.

Lots and lots of things happening and lot of great resources for our kids.

MANY, MANY thanks to all the parents who have supported our P&C – this is what it’s all about – fundraising to give our kids access to the best resources possible, a fun, happy, safe environment and a bright future.

With that in mind…………………… we are looking for volunteers for 2 events to finish off the year:

  • ELECTION DAY – with the election date set for November 24 we are looking for volunteers to help out and run an election bbq.  Last time it was very successful.  We are asking for someone who is willing to run/oversee the bbq and volunteers to work on the day.  If you can help please either email me lmcgowan@bigpond.com or let the office know.
  • CHRISTMAS CAROLS – we are also looking for someone to organise/run this year’s Christmas Carols.  It has been scheduled for Friday, December 7 – however again we need people to can help organise the event.  This is a very easy task with most of the work already done.  Again drop me a note if you think you’d be able to organise or help out with this event to finish off the year.

Just a note also that we have rescheduled our next meeting which would have fallen on Melbourne Cup night.  The meeting will now be held the following Tuesday, November 13 at 7.30pm in the Staffroom.  Hope you can all make it.

P&C President

THANK YOU
At the end of Term 3 we had a mufti day to help support Jordan who gained selection in the NSW PSSA Tennis Team.  I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all children and families for their support.

Congratulations to Brendan who was the lucky winner of the tennis racquet.

The following is a lovely letter I received from one very appreciative little boy!

“To Samuel Gilbert Public School Teachers and Students,
I just want to say thank you for supporting me with my trip to Tasmania.  I really appreciate all your help and I have tried to represent our school the very best I could.  I had a great time in Tasmania with NSW finishing a very close 3rd to Queensland and Victoria.  Thanks again, Jordan”

Congratulations Jordan we are all very proud of you and know you represented us with great pride.

RESEARCH PROJECT – Support Required
A research project on community members’ understanding of Anaphylaxis is currently being undertaken by a parent.  She is undertaking this research as part of her Community Development Diploma course.

A copy of the questionnaire will be forwarded to school community members already included on the P&C email list.  If you would like your name included on this list please email Miranda Ransome on miranda@swts.com.au requesting inclusion.  This will enable you to receive P&C reports in the future giving you insight into P&C meetings in the event you are unable to attend meetings.  A copy of the questionnaire will also be forwarded to you.

Alternatively you can email directly to cathy_greer@optusnet.com.au for a copy of the questionnaire.  Your participation would be greatly appreciated and should only take about 10 minutes of your time.
